As an august student, I was determined to get all of my work done. I was striving for all a’s and b’s. I achieved some a’s, but mostly c’s. I was fine with this. Through the year however, my grades started slipping even more. I started to get f’s. This was concerning. I started to think I was not capable of getting good grades. And that thought stuck with me all year. I started going way downhill from there. As I now know that not doing your work will really mess you up in the future. I am ready for the tenth grade. I will achieve good grades. And I will always do my work. That way I wont have to catch up towards the end of the year.

The class that I excelled in the most was engineering. To excel is to do exponentially well. The project was to get us to understand how to use inventor. We had to make a puzzle cube, and we had to model the parts in inventor. I was really good at this. I am usually good at things that I want to do and that I like to do. I caught on really quickly, and I even discovered a few neat tricks in the program. Making the car was a bit more difficult. My first artifact is my puzzle cube in inventor. This has all of the pieces attached to form a cube. My second artifact is the car project. We had to replicate a toy car by using inventor. This was a bit more difficult because, we had to make rounded parts, and shells. Putting it together was also very difficult. We had to align these parts so perfectly, and it would always move something else out of the way. I did really well on these projects, because I was into them. It was something new and exciting, and it had me interested the whole time. With both of the artifacts, I persisted through them and worked hard at it.

I was never good at Chinese. It is my least favorite class, and I’m terrible at it. We had to do a grid that we had to pace ourselves on. I made a terrible mistake. While I was absent for three days. I didn’t even start to work on the grid, so I was very behind. I stayed this way for a while. I had to work very fast to catch up to the recommended level. I did what I could. Another thing we had to do was some pages of the workbook. One thing that always gets me in Chinese, is the grammar. I can’t remember how it works ever. It is very complicated to me. And the main problems in the workbook are about grammar. So I don’t ever do very well with the workbook. My biggest struggle was understanding the work, and staying ahead. I was very behind, and I had to do a weeks’ worth of work in one night just to get to a good point. I overcame this struggle, by getting help from some of my friends, and doing a ton of work in class. I tried to get two assessments done each class.

In math, we had to do a math grid as well. I did a little better on keeping up with this grid. I would do work outside of school and I would practice at home. The graph project was when we had to take a piece of art, and graph it in desmos. I chose a persistence in memory. It was difficult to graph but the final piece looked nice. This was positive because it gave me hope that I could do things. So I performed better in this class at that time. The grid kept me focused on math so that I could try and get a better grade. This growth is significant because I need all the positivity and confidence that I can get in order to perform well in school.

I am now working way harder to get my grades back up and on track. I am doing what I wanted to do in august, and that is get good grades. Or at least I’m trying. One quality that I used is persistence. If I didn’t try or I gave up, I would drop out of school. I don’t want that. In order to get any job, you need a high school diploma. There are a lot of things I want to do and be in life, without a high school diploma I couldn’t do half of them. I am ready for the tenth grade, because I have learned from my mistakes. I will do my work when it is due, I will work ahead, and most of all I will work on my portfolio when given time. In the tenth grade, I don’t want to have to go through what I am right now. I want to get all my work done when it is due and strive to get good grades.
