Skills I have learned

My interest in making props for a living has increased significantly because of Chinese class. My inspiration for what I made is shown to the right. I loved the way this piece looked, and I wanted one for myself. I have always been interested in making costumes or mythical weapons. When I was told I had to make a suit of armor, I almost lost it with excitement. I felt like a little kid again, making forts out of cardboard, or just playing with the boxes. This time, I needed to use the full extent of my skills, while doing something I’ve never done before. It was a learning experience for me.

The project for this class was to form a talent show. My group for this project wasn’t the most talented with making anything, so I took it all to myself to make the suit. The suit consists of a Crusader helm with a Gundam V-fin on top. There is a chest plate, a shield, a bracer, and leg units. The whole suit took about four hours total to make, not including the paint work. We had to present our suit to the class, and say all the quotes in Chinese. I didn’t focus on studying what I had to say because, I needed to make the suit. The suit one of the few things I’m extremely proud of. This proves my interest in prop making because I put so much effort into making this. If I had more time, and access to better materials, I could’ve made it absolutely fantastic.

My next artifact is the buster sword I made for the suit. It is this absolutely massive sword with a small handle. I do like the design of it however. I am using this because, it was hard to make a handle that was sturdy enough to allow you to hold the sword. I ended up using a ruler, and securing it with a few clips. It worked decently I suppose. This proves I can make use of any materials, and with my creativity, I could make some really cool props.

My third artifact is the shield. You see that Decepticon logo on the shield? To achieve that, I had a friend cut out a stencil and we spray painted it. Granted, my painting skills could be a lot better, but that’s what masking tape is for. I however did not use masking tape. I didn’t have access to that at the time. In general, I had a really fun time making this suit, and an even better time wearing it. I had to put the suit on, and pose in front of the class, while wearing it. In my life, I want to make props, and go to conventions and basically have an amazing time.
